Bolting the stable door after the horse has bolted

horse and stable door

It’s an old saying, but it is so very true and applicable to the world we live in today.

The sad fact is that If you are a homeowner or business owner the chances are you have assets that you want and need to protect.

With this in mind it is a sad fact that these same assets are no doubt being coveted by those who would rather steal than work for a living. If that was not bad enough, there are others who like to destroy for no other reason than they feel like it.

These two threats can only be dealt with by ensuring that your property is protected in one way or another so that any wrongdoer chooses an easier target.

The reason for this is simple enough, they don’t want to get caught in the act, especially if they are likely to be apprehended by trained security personnel like those employed by Wye Security Services.

However, it’s human nature to think that it won’t happen to you,  so many businesses fail to secure their premises or take the necessary precautions to protect their assets.

When that break-in, theft or vandalism then takes place, they can only resort to thinking that hindsight is a wonderful thing and leave it at that.

We have seen this happen so often in our area that it saddens us, so we wanted to recount some of the crimes that have happened in our area.

One that really sticks in our mind was a local coach company, vadals attacking and damaging a number of vehicles in their fleet for no apparent reason. They had no security or cctv so the damage was only noticed when they arrived for work the next day. The amount of inconvenience and costs can only be imagined, something that could, more than likely, have been avoided if there was some security in place. Even a sign stating that the property was guarded by a security guarding company could well have put the miscreants off.

Another case concerns a large estate that was having items stolen at night, the day being safe enough, so it was thought, due to the number of staff who were working on the grounds.

Night security patrols were put into place, and the nighttime thieving stopped. However, when the next holiday season took place, the criminals took the opportunity to steal in broad daylight, there being no one there to see what was going on.

This of course prompted the estate owner to employ daytime security protection as well and that solved the problems, it being easier to attack less well defended properties.

The moral of this story is that it is far better to get your home, business or other property protected before the criminals strike and that horse has already ‘bolted’.
