Here of course we are talking about bad operators, who, one way or another cause you or your business distress.

The Bad Guys, would today more than likely be more concerned with being defined as ‘guys’ than any damage they may have reeked, wanting instead to be known as ‘it’, ‘they’ or some other personal pronoun. A demand that they would be quick to point out is one of their basic human rights as enshrined in law. It is indeed, in the view of some, a strange world we live in today.

They Can Do A Lot Of Damage

But to get back to the point, whatever these bad actors are called, they can do a lot of damage one way or another, and quite simply, they should not be allowed to get away with it, or at the very least, not be able to do any damage in the first place.

First, let us look at the sort of damage we are talking about and the forms it takes.

The Ever Present Threat

Perhaps the most serious is the actual threat to one’s home or business. This threat is ever-present, especially if a break-in or something else has happened before. Such a menace hangs over you all the time and can rob you of your peace of mind. Basically, you are just waiting for it to happen, apparently being unable to do anything to stop it.

Thefts And Mindless Vandalism

Then there is the actual damage done, the stolen cash or goods, the smashed vehicles and windows. In the case of construction sites, this can not only include expensive equipment but also damage to the buildings; at least one site was targeted by thieves who wanted the new boilers that had been installed, ripping them out whilst not bothering to turn the water off. You can just imagine the state the properties were left in.

Lost Business And Sales

For some, the damage could also result in lost business, sales lost etc whilst the pieces are all put together once again.

Tidying Up And The Inevitable Paperwork

Finally we have to consider tidying up the mess that was made. This includes not only fixing or replacing any damaged items, sweeping the floors and carrying out any redecorating that may need to be done, but also the potentially long-winded process of dealing with your insurance company.

We should also not forget that apart from any inevitable excess, that the premium would cost that bit more next year.

A Huge Mental And Physical Toll

It all mounts up and extracts a physical and mental toll, which for some is worse than any financial hit.

They Just Can’t Be Allowed To Get Away With It

As for not getting away with it, well this comes in two parts.

If there has been an incident and damage has been done, then seeking justice is something anyone would want. However, this would be a matter for the courts and can only happen if the miscreants are caught. With Police reaction times being what they are, the only way anyone is going to get caught red-handed is if you have some sort of private security support; our hard-pressed law enforcement service simply being too slow to react in most cases.

But What If It Could Be Stopped?

But perhaps the best thing is for it to have never happened in the first place…..

This is the second and most important part of not letting them get away with it.

But how can you achieve this end, how can you stop the thefts and vandalism, how can you sleep that bit easier in your bed in the knowledge that you have done all that you can to stop anything nasty from happening, whilst also increasing the chances that any bad guys will be caught and thus face punishment?

Luckily the answer is simple and relatively inexpensive.

All it takes is to instruct a security firm like Wye Security to provide you with the cover your home or business requires. The level of security you will need will vary depending on the type of property that is to be protected, but basically speaking, it comes in two very important parts.

The Protective Sign

The first is the sign, a sign that tells all that the property is being protected, something that all by itself can stop anything from ever happening due to the theory of crime displacement, any wrongdoers deciding to target somebody else’s property rather than risking being caught.

The Magical Effect

Of course, ‘the sign’ only has this magical effect if it is backed by a security presence.

The Security ‘Presence’

This takes the form of either a security guard on the premises, or more likely the use of mobile patrols, these turning up out of the blue day and night so that the bad guys can never know when it is safe to do their dark deeds.

And if they do strike, then they know that they will have a very limited amount of time before the cavalry arrives in response to the inevitable triggered alarm.

And if they are still there when our mobile patrol arrives there is a good chance that we will be able to hold them until the Police turn up, this giving rise to the possibility of punishment.

A Bonus – No Need To Attend To False Alarms Anymore

By the way, the fact that you won’t have to attend the site once the alarm is raised is another plus point to having a company like Wye Security to hand, as it means you don’t have to get up on a cold, dark, wet night to attend to any false alarms…

We Can Make It Harder For The Bad Guys To Get Away With It

I hope you get the picture here, as one way or another, Wye Security can indeed ensure, or at least reduce the chances that the bad guys will get away with it, regardless of what personal pronoun they use…

Your Best Ever New Years Resolution

Contact us and make (and keep) what may be the most important New Year’sresolution you ever make.

The clocks going back have not increased the number of the hours of darkness of course, but they do seem to make the nights that bit longer in some strange way.

More Dark Time

But regardless of the time darkness falls, the fact of the matter is that there is more ‘dark’ time for burglars, intruders and vandals to carry out their dreadful deeds. And whatever sort of criminal act a business or homeowner experiences, the outcome is unlikely to be favourable.

It Takes Time And Money To Put Things Right

One way or another, time and money will be needed to put things back as they were.

So what can be done about the problem, what can a business or homeowner do to stop these acts from happening, or at the very least, deflect the culprits so that they carry out their foul deeds elsewhere (a phenomenon known as Crime Displacement)?

What Sort Of Business Or Premises Needs To Be Protected

Of course it all depends on what sort of business or home you are trying to protect.

For instance, a building site with all the valuable equipment and building materials (the latter being increasingly valuable recently as the price has skyrocketed) lying about in full view with just a flimsy temporary wire fence for protection needs a totally different sort of protective shield than a four bedroom house or shop.

The best form of defence is undoubtedly having security guards (possibly with dogs) on site 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. However, such protection is simply not affordable for most businesses.

CCTV And Alarm Systems

When it comes to buildings with set, well built perimeters, CCTV and Alarm systems can be used in to create ‘rings of steel’ which make it hard for any intruder to reach the main areas where the expensive stock or vehicles are stored.

No Protectable Perimeter

If there is no protectable perimeter (as in the case with a residential house or shop on the high street), then all that can be done is to ensure that this area is fully secure, with locks and windows on every door, CCTV and Alarms again being used.

Some Simple Ways To Put Criminals Away

Of course, other things can be done to put the criminals off, such as having lights going on and off, even perhaps having music playing or a recording of a dog barking.

But when it comes to that building site, it all becomes more difficult. Yes, there could be CCTV, but could it be set to cover the entire site, and just how vunerable would the cameras themselves be?

Mobile Patrols – Simply The Best

This is where, possibly, the very best type of protection comes into play, that of the mobile security patrol. Of course, these can be combined with CCTV etc, the Alarm Response service that they provide (and more importantly, that criminals know they provide) greatly reducing the time they have ‘onsite’. This means loading that huge tractor on a low loader is not likely to happen.

These Premises Are Protected Signs

But, even as a ‘stand alone’ service, the fact is that a sign saying ‘These Premises Are Protected By Wye Security Solutions’ is enough to make criminals think twice, as they simply don’t know when the next patrol will swing by, or how long it will take them to arrive once the alarm is raised in some manner.

Faster Response Times Than The Police

The one thing they can be sure of, however, is that the security company will react faster than the local Police (at least 9 times out of 10).

The costs of a protecting your valuables works out a lot cheaper when you employ the services of a company like Wye Security and as explained above, they can provide the level of crime displacement and protection needed, for just about any premises.

Full Risk Assessment

To be totally certain your home or business is fully protected, it is always best to have a full risk assessment carried out, this allowing the necessary level and types of protection to be put into place.

This is just one of the services offered by Wye Security, it being our aim to make sure that our customers have the maximum level of protection possible.

If you would like to have a chat about the best way to secure your premises etc, please do contact us, we have years of experience to call upon and the means to allow you to sleep at night, in the knowledge that we are there protecting what you hold dear.

Understanding
Your Business Security Needs

The first step in developing the
right security strategy is to conduct a thorough assessment of the dangers your
business is facing. This process involves analyzing various factors unique to
your organization, including:

Industry-specific risks and vulnerabilities

Physical location and surrounding environment

Size of your workforce and operational hours

Value of assets and sensitive information

Regulatory compliance requirements

At Wye Security Solutions we are used to going through this procedure, carefully evaluating each of these elements. Once done, you will have a clearer picture of the potential threats your business may face and the security measures that need to be considered.

One obvious area is that of when
security measures will be provided. Do you need security during the day and
also in the hours of darkness and should mobile patrols or fixed security
guards be deployed?

This understanding will serve as
the foundation for determining the most appropriate security measures to
implement.

It’s important to note that
security needs can vary significantly across different sectors. For instance, a
retail store may prioritize theft prevention and customer safety, while a tech
company might focus more on cybersecurity and protecting intellectual property.
Recognizing these distinctions will help you tailor your security approach to
address your organization’s specific challenges.

Additionally, consider the
scalability of your security solutions. As your business grows and evolves, so
too will your security requirements. Choosing flexible and adaptable security
measures can save you time and resources in the long run, allowing you to
adjust your strategy as needed without overhauling your entire system.

Assessing
Physical Security Risks

Physical security forms the
first line of defence against tangible threats to your business. These risks
can range from petty theft and vandalism to more serious crimes like burglary
or workplace violence. To effectively address these concerns, it’s crucial to
identify potential vulnerabilities in your physical infrastructure.

Start by examining the layout of
your premises, paying close attention to entry and exit points, windows, and
any areas that might provide easy access to intruders. Consider the following
aspects:

Perimeter security: Fencing, gates, and outdoor lighting

Access control systems: Key cards, biometric scanners, or traditional locks

Surveillance equipment: CCTV cameras and monitoring systems

Alarm systems: Intruder detection and alert mechanisms

Remember that physical security
extends beyond just preventing unauthorized access. It also encompasses
protecting valuable assets within your premises, such as equipment, inventory,
and sensitive documents. Implementing secure storage solutions, such as safes
or locked cabinets, can provide an additional layer of protection for these
items.

Moreover, don’t overlook the
importance of emergency preparedness. Ensure that your physical security
measures align with fire safety regulations and facilitate quick evacuation if
necessary. This might involve installing emergency exits, fire alarms, and
clearly marked escape routes.

By taking a comprehensive
approach to physical security, you can create a safer environment for your
employees and customers while safeguarding your business assets.

Implementing
Access Control Systems

Access control systems play a
crucial role in managing who can enter your premises and access specific areas
within your business. These systems not only enhance security but also provide
valuable data on employee movements and help streamline operations.

When selecting an access control
system, consider the following options:

Key card systems: Affordable and easy to implement

Biometric scanners: Offer higher security but may be more expensive

Mobile-based access: Convenient and can integrate with other smart building features

PIN codes: Simple but potentially less secure if codes are shared

The choice of system will depend
on your specific needs, budget, and the level of security required. For
instance, a small office might find a simple key card system sufficient, while
a high-security facility might opt for a combination of biometric scanners and
PIN codes.

Remember to consider scalability
when implementing access control. As your business grows or your security needs
change, you may need to add new access points or integrate with other systems.
Choosing a flexible, modular system can make these future upgrades easier and
more cost-effective.

Additionally, ensure that your
access control system is properly managed and maintained. Regularly update user
permissions, deactivate lost or stolen credentials promptly, and conduct
periodic audits to identify any unusual access patterns or potential security
breaches.

Surveillance
and Monitoring Solutions

Effective surveillance and
monitoring can significantly enhance your business’s security posture. These
systems not only deter potential criminals but also provide valuable evidence
in case of incidents. When considering surveillance solutions, keep the following
factors in mind:

CCTV Camera types and placement

Video quality and storage capacity

Remote monitoring capabilities

Integration with other security systems

Compliance with privacy laws

Modern surveillance systems
offer a range of advanced features, such as facial recognition, motion
detection, and AI-powered analytics. While these can provide enhanced security,
it’s important to balance their benefits against cost and potential privacy
concerns.

Consider implementing a mix of
visible and discreet cameras. Visible cameras can act as a deterrent, while
hidden cameras can capture footage without alerting potential wrongdoers.
Ensure that your camera placement provides comprehensive coverage of critical
areas without infringing on employee or customer privacy.

In addition to video
surveillance, consider implementing other monitoring solutions such as alarm
systems and environmental sensors. These can alert you to various threats,
including break-ins, fires, or equipment failures, allowing for rapid response
and mitigation.

A Fast Alarm Response Service is
Mandatory

At Wye we specailise in providing a fast response whenever an alarm is triggered, which when paired with our keyholding service means that we and the authorities can access your premises as required.

Remember that surveillance and
monitoring systems generate large amounts of data. Develop clear policies for
data retention, access, and disposal to ensure compliance with relevant
regulations and protect individual privacy rights.

Hiring
Security Personnel

While technology plays a crucial
role in modern security strategies, human security personnel can provide a
level of adaptability and judgment that machines cannot match. When considering
whether to hire security staff, evaluate the following factors:

The nature and value of your assets

The level of public access to your premises

Your operating hours and location

Any history of security incidents

Budget constraints

If you decide to hire security
personnel, you have several options:

In-house security team: Offers more control but requires significant investment in training and management

Contracted security services such as those provided by Wye Security: This solution provides flexibility and access to trained professionals

Hybrid approach: Combining in-house and contracted personnel for optimal coverage

Regardless of the approach you choose, ensure that all security personnel are properly trained, licensed, and equipped to handle potential security threats (all Wye personnel are fully trained). Regular training and drills can help maintain their readiness and effectiveness.

Consider the specific roles you
need security personnel to fulfil. These might include:

Access control and visitor management

Mobile patrols

Monitoring surveillance systems

Responding to alarms and incidents

Providing customer service and assistance

By clearly defining these roles
and responsibilities, you can ensure that your security personnel are utilized
effectively and integrate seamlessly with your overall security strategy.

Emergency
Response Planning

No matter how robust your preventive
measures are, it’s crucial to have a well-developed emergency response plan in
place. This plan should outline clear procedures for various scenarios, such
as:

Natural disasters (floods, etc.)

Fire emergencies

Active shooter situations

Medical emergencies

Cyber attacks or data breaches

Your emergency response plan
should include:

Evacuation procedures and assembly points

Communication protocols (both internal and external)

Roles and responsibilities of key personnel

Contact information for emergency services and key stakeholders

Procedures for securing and recovering critical assets

Regularly review and update your
emergency response plan to ensure it remains relevant and effective. Conduct
periodic drills and training sessions to familiarize employees with the
procedures and identify any areas for improvement.

Additionally, consider investing
in emergency equipment such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and
emergency lighting. Ensure that these items are readily accessible and properly
maintained.

Remember that effective
emergency response often requires coordination with local authorities and
emergency services. Establish relationships with these entities in advance and
include their input in your planning process.

Compliance
and Legal Considerations

Ensuring that your security
measures comply with relevant laws and regulations is crucial for avoiding
legal issues and maintaining your business’s reputation. Key areas to consider
include:

Data protection and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)

Industry-specific standards (e.g., PCI DSS for payment card processing)

Occupational health and safety regulations

Employment laws related to workplace surveillance and monitoring

Contractual obligations with clients or partners

Regularly review your security
practices to ensure ongoing compliance with these requirements. This may
involve:

Conducting compliance audits

Maintaining detailed documentation of your security measures

Providing regular compliance training to employees

Engaging legal counsel to review your security policies and procedures

Remember that compliance
requirements can vary depending on your industry, location, and the types of
data you handle. Stay informed about changes in regulations that may affect
your business and be prepared to adapt your security measures accordingly.

Consider implementing a
compliance management system to help track and manage your various compliance
obligations. This can help streamline your efforts and ensure that nothing
falls through the cracks.

By addressing these compliance
and legal considerations, you can not only avoid potential penalties but also
demonstrate your commitment to responsible business practices, which can
enhance trust with customers and partners.

In conclusion, determining the
right security measures for your business requires a comprehensive approach
that considers various factors, from physical security to cybersecurity,
employee training, and regulatory compliance.

By carefully assessing your
needs and implementing a multi-layered security strategy, you can protect your
assets, employees, and reputation.

At Wye Security we are always keen to help our clients improve their security and to answer any questions they have about our services as well as security guards and services in general.

Here are just a few we have answered in 2023

Are security guards in the UK armed?

No one except those authorised by the Government can carry guns in the UK. Even the Police can only deploy weapons in exceptional circumstances. Other non-fatal weapons are also banned. Therefore, a security guard cannot legally carry batons, pepper spray or tasers (as the Police can). They can carry handcuffs, but even here, they have to be careful when applying them.

Do security guards have additional legal powers?

Every security guard would love it to be different, but the fact is that they do not have any more powers than a member of the public. They can make a citizen’s arrest under certain conditions, just as anyone else can. But they cannot use unreasonable force, although they can apply physical strength if the suspect resists arrest, although only enough to restrain them until the Police arrive and can take over. The most important fact is that all security guards are trained to be able to exert force properly and minimise the risk of injury.

How can anyone improve their physical security?

The basic rule here is to protect the perimeter of your home
or business premises. You can do this by keeping doors and windows locked and
never leaving them open when no one is at home. Fitting bars or shutters to
vulnerable windows or doors is also a great idea. CCTV is an excellent way of
detering intruders as they do not like the fact that a record of their criminal
activity could be made, besides which it gives you the ability to react and
stop the intruders. As long as you have the ability to call in a security firm
that provides a quick response (like Wye Security).

How do you implement physical security?

Implementing common physical security controls like door locks, additional lighting, safes, and secure storage cabinets will all enhance your security.

What are the 4 D’s of physical security?

The 4 D’s are Deter, Detect, Delay and Defend. There are many great ways to Deter criminal activity. A simple sign saying that the property is protected a security firm like Wye Security can be enough in some circumstances. Dectection methods include alarm systems (these being triggered in various ways, such as heat, movement or pressure pads) and CCTV cameras. Intruders can be delayed by the use of additional locks or even extra barriers inside the perimeter. Acting together this layered / zonal approach will Defend your property and keep any wrongdoers away.

What do security guards do?

Security guards, also called security officers, are there to protect property, deter criminal activity and make everyone feel that bit safer. Guards can either be placed in a stationary position where they can monitor alarms and surveillance cameras and/or control access to the premises, or be assigned to a mobile patrol, often in a highly visible vehicle.

What is an example of a physical security KPI?

One of the most important statistics is that of response time. Once an alarm is triggered or some suspicious activity is noticed, it is vital that a security team is quickly on the scene. That way, any damage or losses are minimised, as is the risk to employees and visitors. Wye Security have an exceptional record in this area, our mobile patrols apprehending a number of intruders in 2023.

What are the advantages of physical security?

Why is Physical Security important? The simple answer is that it ensures the safety of your employees, facilities, and assets. There are many real-world threats to protect against, and whilst some such as cyber attacks do not represent a physical threat, the damage that vandals and other wrong doers can reek means that they must be kept at bay at all times.

What is the difference between physical security and cyber security?

The key difference between the two is the nature of the assets being protected. Physical security is primarily focused on protecting ‘physical’ assets, like buildings and vehicles, whilst cybersecurity is focused on protecting intangible assets, such information and data storage systems.

What security guards cannot do?

Private security guards have to be very careful when dealing with any threats. They are simply not allowed to use what could be considered an excessive amount of force. In fact if they do, the ‘arrest’ that they made could in itself be deemed to be a criminal act, something that could result in action being taken against the guard and even perhaps their employer. Thus, all guards need to be trained to deal with a variety of circumstances in the proper manner.

What skills should security guards have?

One of the most important skills a security guard needs is that of communication. Effective communication is vital as only then can an otherwise dangerous situation be brought under control in a safe and timely manner. Other skills like Observation, Awareness, the ability to think quickly and being able to defuse any potential conflict are also needed. Proficiency with some forms of technology and first aid procedures can also be very useful too. Please do check out our accreditaions and training certificates

Security is a critical aspect of any successful business whatever you do or sell. Some businesses have data that others want to acquire, while intruders are after physical goods or cash. All businesses are under threat, but the bigger it grows, so does the risk of intruders attempting to breach your security systems, be they simple locks or advanced intruder detection systems. It therefore is essential to be aware of the strategies intruders employ to bypass security systems in order to effectively protect your company’s reputation and revenue. In this article, we will explore five common techniques used by intruders to circumvent the higher levels of security systems employed by businesses today.

1.
Tailgating Through Access Control Systems

One tactic intruders use is called tailgating, which involves an unofficial person gaining entry to a secure area in the presence of an authorized individual. By exploiting this opportunity, criminals can access control systems and potentially steal sensitive data or goods, even your employees possessions, posing a significant risk to a company. Implementing anti-tailgating measures such as physical barriers like turnstiles and speed gates can greatly enhance security by allowing only authorized individuals with valid identification to enter. However, the very best way of preventing such attempts is to have manned security checkpoints.

2. Hacking
CCTV Cameras

Despite advancements in CCTV camera
technology, these systems are still susceptible to hacking. Intruders can
exploit vulnerabilities in CCTV systems to gain unauthorized access and
manipulate the surveillance feed. They may retrieve default passwords and user
IDs, making it easy for them to compromise the system. Regularly updating
default passwords, using strong encryption, and keeping the system software up
to date can help mitigate this risk. You also have to ensure that the CCTV
images are monitored so that any interruptions to the feeds are noticed,
because that is the time to send a mobile security patrol to check that all is
well…

3.
Disabling Alarm Systems

Intruders may also attempt to disable alarm systems to avoid detection. The latest alarm systems utilize radio signals to communicate between sensors and central units. However, criminals have found ways to manipulate the central units, preventing alarms from sounding. They may use signal jammers to interrupt radio signals, rendering the alarm system ineffective. To counter this, consider using advanced alarm systems with encrypted communication protocols and regularly testing the system to ensure its functionality. As with CCTV systems, it is essential that such systems are constantly monitored in some way, and that a security team is sent whenever there are any irregularities in the alarm system.

4.
Bypassing Antivirus Software in Computers

Cybercriminals employ various tactics to bypass antivirus software, such as encryption and code mutation. They may trick users into launching corrupted files or exploit vulnerabilities in outdated operating systems. To protect your computer systems, it is crucial to keep antivirus software up to date, regularly scan for malware, and educate employees about the risks of opening suspicious email attachments or visiting untrusted websites. Unfortunately, this is one area that manned security is not able to help. Here you need to make sure that your IT section is up to scratch and is keeping the operating systems and malware and anti virus software are kept up to date.

5. Stealing
Access Control Authentication

Access control systems typically rely on
biometric signatures or ID cards for authentication. Intruders may attempt to
steal authorized users’ fingerprints or user IDs by tapping into devices or
using hidden cameras. Implementing robust access control solutions, such as
multifactor authentication and regular monitoring of access logs, can help
prevent unauthorized access and protect sensitive data.

Conclusion

It is important to stay vigilant and continually update your security measures to stay one step ahead of intruders. In addition to these strategies, consider implementing measures such as regular security audits, employee training on cybersecurity best practices, and partnering with a reputable security service provider like Wye Security Solutions to bolster your physical security.

By being proactive and adopting a comprehensive
approach to security, you can effectively safeguard your business against
potential security breaches and protect your valuable assets.

Remember, maintaining strong security measures
is an ongoing effort. Stay informed about evolving threats, invest in robust
security solutions, and regularly assess and update your security protocols to
stay ahead of intruders.

Wye Security Solutions passed the all important audit by the
Security Industry Authority (SIA) for its Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) in
July this year.

Passing the audit means that we have proved that we meet all
the necessary conditions that enable us to deliver security services to the
proscribed standards.

And it is not an easy thing to pass, it covering a whole
host of business operations, which themselves have nothing to do with security,
but show that the business is being run in the correct way (as well as of
course, examining the services we provide). For example, we had to demonstrate
that our bookkeeping and invoicing systems were up to standard and that we were
paying VAT and all other appropriate taxes.

We also had to prove that we looked after our staff and
their welfare, paid the correct level of pension contributions and had an
active health and safety policy.

Plus, when it came to being able to deliver security
solutions, we had to prove that we vetted all staff members in the correct
manner; this to ensure that they did themselves not present any danger to our
customers and that they could carry out their duties to the highest level. The
level of customer satisfaction was also checked (we are proud to say we have
lots of happy long term customers).

The methods used to ensure the safety our staff when they
were working alone had to be approved, this being an important issue in
relation to our mobile patrols.

Our patrol vehicles were also checked to make sure they were fit for purpose (ours are almost brand new).

Besides all of this, we had to demonstrate that all our
internal procedures were adequate, in that our keyholding systems (and the
identification process of anyone who requested access to a key) were safe, as
were the details of all customer identities. In fact, just about all our documentation
systems had to be checked and approved.

On top of all of this, every staff member was interviewed,
special attention being applied in the case of the management team.

All of this took 3 days, and we are pleased to say that after these intense and exhaustive checks, Wye Security passed and were yet again given Approved Contractor status.

All of which means that anyone who needs services like manned guarding, mobile patrols, keyholding or alarm activation response can be sure that they can trust Wye Security Solutions with the safety of their home, business premises and staff.

Businesses of all types and sizes are under increasing levels of threat these days. Cyber attacks are often in the news, with companies being held hostage until they pay extraordinary amounts of cash. But with money getting ever tighter, the levels of physical crime are likely to rise over the coming months.

Good Physical Security is Essential

As mentioned above, digital security is often the one that springs to mind these days, something that has resulted in physical security taking second place when budgets are being considered.

But is this really a good idea? There is no doubt that protection again Cyber attacks and intrusion is necessary to stop hacking attempts, but physical protection of staff and assets also needs consideration.

Types of Physical Business Security

Basically speaking, physical security measures keep unauthorised people away from a business’s property, assets, stock and staff. This reduces theft and damage as well as staff injuries.

There are three types of security measures, which when used together enable a business to protect itself just as well as it can, no system being 100% effective against a determined attack. These 3 areas are:-

Deterrent

Detection

Protection

A high level of Deterrence can be really helpful when it comes to what is known as ‘crime displacement’, that is when the burglar or thief is ‘encouraged’ to go elsewhere when they see signs telling them that mobile security patols are in operation, or that the site is protected by a security firm like Wye Security.

High fences, security lighting and the presence of CCTV cameras are another reason why a likely intruder will decide to move on to easier pickings. Even an alarm box on wall has some effect.

When it comes to detecting a break in or fire, there are numerous types of sensors, some reacting to the sound of breaking glass, others to movement or the presence of heat. When connected to a monitoring system and an associated alarm response team, any break in or fire will soon be dealt with. CCTV is another way that intruders can be detected, and with this in mind, the cameras need to be carefully placed to give them the maximum possible ‘lines of sight’.

Physical Protection is best initially provided by the use of fences and gates, these preventing or at least delaying any attack. However, these on their own are not enough. The physical presence of a security guard or mobile patrol is also essential.

Used Together, They Offer High Levels of Protection

All of these measures are intrinsically linked together, in that mobile patrols and guards on the gate not only provide physical protection, but also act as a deterrent. This is one of the reasons Wye Security uses such highly visible patrol vehicles. Just having one appearing now and then – we never have a set time to visit the properties we are protecting, varying them so as to keep any intruder guessing – is enough to displace the threat.

So, whilst it is necessary to protect your business from data theft and hacking attempts, please don’t forget the physical security of your premises, it could save you a lot of time and money in the long run.

When it comes to keeping your home and business safe, hiring the right security company, one that is going to be reliable is vital. But with so many security companies on the market, how can you be sure you’re getting the right one? So, before you choose a security company, it’s important to ask the right questions. By understanding the company’s experience, to asking them detailed questions about their services, these five crucial questions will help you determine if the security company you’re considering is the right fit for your home or business.

By asking the right questions, you can be confident that you’re hiring the best security company for your needs.

What is the company’s experience?

Before you sign a contract, it’s important to find out how much experience the security company has in your sector. Not only will this information help you determine if the company is reputable, but it will also help you gauge the type of services you can expect. For example, if the security company specializes in commercial security, and you are looking for residential security, they might not be the best option for your home.

While it’s important to understand the company’s experience, it’s also crucial to consider how long they’ve been in business and how their services have evolved over time. If the security company is a fairly new, it may not have the same level of experience as a one that has been around for a few years.

What services does the company offer?

The type of security services you need for your home or business will vary depending on your unique situation. Before you hire a security company, it’s important to understand what services you need, as only then can you be sure that you’re going to get the right coverage for your needs. For example, if you’re looking for alarm response for your home, you’ll want to make sure the security company you hire provides this service. Also, when asking about the services the security company offers, make sure to find out the costs and if anything is considered an extra.

How do they use new technology?

Before you hire a security company, it’s important to find out how they utilise the new technologies that are available. Today, technology plays an essential role in the security process and can offer extremely effective solutions, these often costing less than the manpower that would otherwise be required. This has the effect of reducing your costs, while maintaining the same level of protection.

Does the company only use fully trained staff and do they provide them with ongoing training?

You need to make sure that the company only use fully trained staff and that they also offer ongoing training and development. This will ensure the company is keeping up-to-date with changes in the security industry, including new technology and legislation.

What are the company’s customer service policies?

As you’re comparing security companies, it’s important to find out what customer service policies the company has in place. No two security companies will be exactly the same, but you can use the customer service policies to determine if you’re making the right decision. For example, if the security company doesn’t offer 24-hour customer service, that might not be the best company to hire. Or if the company only offers one or two ways to contact them, that might not be the best option. By understanding their customer service policies, you can make sure you’re getting the best service when you need it.

What are the company’s pricing and payment options?

As you’re comparing security companies, it’s important to understand the company’s monthly payment options and the pricing for the services you’re receiving. Not only does this help you determine if the security company is affordable, but it will also help you understand the cost of the monthly payment. For example, if the security company charges a one-time fee, a monthly fee, or a yearly fee. Whatever time periods they offer, make sure you’re comfortable with the price before you hire them. While the price of the services you’re receiving will vary from company to company, it’s important to make sure you understand what you’re paying for and why you’re paying that specific amount.

The method of payment is also important, Wye Security for example now taking Direct Debits, something that could be important when considering the ease of doing business with the company concerned.

What is the company’s reputation?

Before you hire a security firm, it’s important to find out what their reputation is. This will help you determine if that security company can be trusted and will be a good fit for your home or business. One of the best ways this can be checked is by reading online reviews, as well as if possible, talking to other customers of the firm. You can also look at the company’s social media pages to see if they respond to complaints and reviews.

By asking the above questions, you should be able to evaluate all the security companies in your area and be able to make the right decision and thus ensure your home or business are in safe hands.

Many home owners have had alarms fitted over the years, the peace of mind being well worth the cost of the installation.

But what if the alarm goes off? What happens then, especially if the home owner is away?

It is a sad fact that the Police are just too busy to attend to every alarm, the number of false alarms further reducing their willingness and ability to attend.

This is where WyeSecuritySolutions can help. We are offering a brand new inexpensive way of ensuring that when your alarm is triggered we will send a team to make sure all is well.

Of course, we can also provide Residental Security Teams (RST) which are on the premises 24/7.

With WyeSecuritySolutions it’s all about providing the service the client wants, needs and can afford.

If you are worried about your security, please do contact us. We are here to help.

Watch out for our advertisements regarding our ‘residential alarm response service,’ or better still call us for details.
